japanese artist wakuneco has found an interesting way to apply the traditional needle felting technique, making incredibly realistic portraits of cats, made from needle-felted wool. the uncanny heads are inspired from images of real felines which range in breed, color, and size.

the three dimensional creations feature realistic fur, lifelike glass eyes and tiny whiskers, each one individually secured by hand. the life-like fur is formed by repeatedly poking layers of wool with a needle until the loose wool fibres together to make a solid felted shape.

"Making felted cats was just a hobby to me first, but by posting my work on SNS I thankfully started receiving requests from many people for their cats. Finally I started taking custom orders in August, 2016."
